Light designs

Playing with light again. Using an off camera flash (Vivitar 285HV) with some Cactus V2S to trigger the flash (on a Lumepro 8ft light stand) at the start of the frame, after the flash I used a red light and a blue light to 'paint' the light while the shutter was drawn out to allow the design to be drawn.

Using the same set up as above, this time I started with the small book light near my face to light it, then brought it down and started the design.

Ghosting

Usually 'ghosting' is a bad thing, but here I think it works. Taken in the City Cemetery between 9 and 11 o'clock PM. These images are unedited. I used light and differing shutter speeds to achieve the effects.

All images taken the the Canon Rebel Xsi with the 18-55 kit lens.

Schmitz

A huge thanks to Caroline for being my model for the night and walking around in the middle of the city in a prom dress and getting honked and stared at.
The whole shoot was very random. I saw her at work, she wasn't doing anything, we arranged the time and here are the results.

Taken outside an antique store, I loved the old bench and clean windows.

The Ritz theater (in the background) is one of my favorite locations downtown. It's such a nice building, and I can't wait for it to re-open.

I know this one looks a lot like the one above, but I really liked them both. The church in the background is absolutely beautiful, even in the background.

I love the lighting in this one. It's all natural light, the spotlight effect coming from the reflection of the windows of the building across the street.

Thank you wide angle lens. Again the light is all natural.
Added slight edge blur for added softness in post.

This was the first image I had in my head when I asked her to do this shoot. The idea of someone standing in the middle of the road in a gown appealed to me greatly. I didn't pose her in this one because I liked the almost awkwardness of her stance. I mean, she's standing in the street. Doesn't get much more awkward than that.

Getting Ready.

Caroline attempts to put in her grandmother's hairpins. They, sadly, wouldn't stay in, but we got some great shots nonetheless.

Midnight Flower Raid

Here are a few shots I got while experimenting with on-camera flash. All shots were taken with Panasonic's Lumix FZ-8.
Special thanks to Keelie for her amazing access skills, allowing us (Elizabeth and I) into the back room of the Flower Station to get these shots. Lighting in the flower freezer and the green house was really bad... normally. When you're experimenting with flash, it was perfect.

These Gerber Daises were not arranged. I just got down on the ground and shot them from below just as they were in the water bucket of the freezer.

The Gerber daisies again, this time from above. The flash was (accidentally) covered by an orange daisy above (off camera) acting as a flash gel (because I forgot mine) and giving this image that warm light that works so well on the 'fuzzies' of the stems.

A beautiful white daisy shot in macro. The flash really brought out the very clean petals of the flower.

This image was not altered in post production. This is the straight image, using only the on camera flash. When I saw the result on my screen I naturally squealed (a very manly squeal) with delight.

The sleeping sunflower. One of a few in the freezer kept cold so it keeps closed. Ten minutes in the flower freezer and my hands felt like ice. Luckily, I'm not bothered by that. Sadly, my camera is.

I don't remember the name of this one, but I loved it. Adjusted color and levels in post.
